Idina Menzel, the original Elphaba in Broadway’s Wicked, makes a showstopping cameo in the new Wicked movie, honoring her Tony-winning role.

Directed by Jon Chu, the two-part film adaptation expands on the musical's story, featuring Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth as enchantresses narrating the history of the Grimmerie during the song "One Short Day." Chu aimed to pay proper homage to the actresses, saying, “Their DNA is all over this.”

Menzel’s only stipulation for her cameo was to “just make us look pretty,” she told Entertainment Weekly. On Instagram, she praised the cast, including Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, calling the film “spectacular” and “extremely moving.”

The film opened to massive success, earning $114 million domestically during its opening weekend, setting a record for a movie musical. Featuring an all-star cast including Erivo as Elphaba, Grande as Glinda, Jonathan Bailey as Fiyero, and Michelle Yeoh as Madame Morrible, Wicked is defying box office gravity with its heartfelt homage to its Broadway roots.
