Moot explores chemistry's role in national development

Speakers at an international conference emphasised the urgent need to align materials science research with community needs, particularly to advance environmentally friendly technologies.

The conference, titled "Functional Materials and Emerging Technologies," was organised by the Department of Chemistry, University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF), under the directives of Vice Chancellor Dr Muhammad Sarwar Khan.

The event brought together prominent academics and professionals to discuss the transformative role of chemistry in addressing modern challenges and promoting sustainable solutions.

In his message, UAF Vice Chancellor Dr Muhammad Sarwar Khan highlighted the university's commitment to quality education, innovative research, and sustainable development.

"Promoting environmentally friendly technologies is essential to combat environmental degradation and ensure a sustainable future," he said.

Dr Ijaz Ahmad Bhatti, Dean of the Faculty of Sciences, elaborated on the university's dedication to skill-based, high-quality education.

He emphasised the Department of Chemistry's pivotal role in preparing students for careers in fields such as Pakistan Atomic Energy, defense sciences, and industrial sectors.

Dr Bhatti outlined the department's research initiatives in specialised areas, including physical, environmental, and radiation chemistry.

He also underscored the importance of aligning these efforts with the Higher Education Commission's vision for advancing chemical sciences in Pakistan.

The conference explored critical aspects of functional materials, including their applications, properties, and associated challenges.

Dr Bhatti also discussed the growing influence of Artificial Intelligence in driving innovation during what he referred to as the "silicon age."

Dr Habib Aslam Gaba lauded the university's efforts and the energy of its dynamic youth. He stressed the indispensable role of chemistry in scientific advancements and national progress.
