Bollywood hit 'Biwi No. 1' set to re-release in theatres

The film, originally released in 1999, was a major box office hit and remembered for its humour and star-studded cast

Bollywood classic Biwi No. 1, starring Salman Khan and Karishma Kapoor, is set to return to cinemas on November 29, 2024. The film, originally released in 1999, was a major box office hit and is remembered for its humour and star-studded cast, including Tabu, Sushmita Sen, and Anil Kapoor.

Producer Vashu Bhagnani, who announced the re-release, shared his excitement in a press statement: "Biwi No. 1 holds a special place in our hearts.

The movie connected with audiences against all odds and won the hearts of millions. Bringing it back to the big screen gives us a chance to relive the laughter and fun, especially with its amazing star cast. The magic of this film is timeless, and we want every cinegoer to remember the joy of laughter."

Director David Dhawan echoed these sentiments, adding, "Audiences still talk about the film's humour and the joy it brought to families. Comedy films are best enjoyed when watched in a group and on the big screen. Re-releasing Biwi No. 1 will give fans a chance to celebrate those memories and introduce new viewers."

The comedy-drama follows the life of Prem (Salman Khan), a businessman married to Pooja (Karisma Kapoor), whose life is turned upside down when he embarks on an affair with glamorous model Rupali (Sushmita Sen). Unbeknownst to him, Pooja is aware of his infidelity and plans a revenge that leads to a series of comic twists.

Biwi No. 1 was a major commercial success, becoming the second highest-grossing Bollywood film of 1999. Its soundtrack, composed by Anu Malik, became a sensation, featuring memorable songs like 'Chunari Chunari' and 'Mujhe Maaf Karna'.

The film also featured a special cameo by Saif Ali Khan. With its re-release, Biwi No. 1 is set to once again entertain audiences, offering a dose of nostalgic humour while welcoming new fans.
