Health Week kicks off in Pindi

Citizens avail free diagnosis, blood screening, medicines and counselling services

With a commitment to provide free medical treatment to citizens, the "Health Week" was inaugurated in the Rawalpindi district on Wednesday.

PML-N MNA Tahira Aurangzeb and Rawalpindi Deputy Commissioner (DC) Hassan Waqar Cheema inaugurated the health week.

The week will last from November 20 to 22 in which free blood screening, other tests, diagnosis of various diseases and counselling will be provided to patients in addition to the provision of free medicines.

Citizens will also be provided with detailed information about disease diagnosis and adopting healthy lifestyle habits. Screening camps have been established in all district headquarters (DHQ) and tehsil headquarters (THQs) hospitals besides Rural Health Centres (RHCs) and Primary Health Centres (PHCs) across the district.

Moreover, registration is also being conducted for the provision of

free insulin to children affected by Type 1 diabetes. For the first time in Punjab's history, free insulin will be delivered to the homes of children suffering from diabetes.

'Free insulin for children'

Speaking on the occasion, MNA Tahira Aurangzeb said that Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif was taking revolutionary steps to provide facilities to the public. "Special measures are being taken to raise awareness about the health week," she added.

Tahira further said that registration for free provision of insulin to children suffering from type 1 diabetes during the health week was underway. "For the first time in the history of Punjab, free insulin will be delivered to the homes of children suffering from diabetes", she said.

Health Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dr Asif Arbab Niazi informed that screening camps would be providing various types of facilities during the week including clinical history and basic examination, initial examination of the patients to check their health status, liver health examination, and liver health would be assessed through screening for fibrosis.

He further informed that the screening tests would be provided for early diagnosis of serious diseases like TB. Dr Niazi highlighted that the pregnant women would be provided with special examination, necessary advice and vaccination.
