Dirty soda becomes TikTok’s latest viral trend, blending soda, cream, and syrups in creative recipes

TikTok’s latest obsession, dirty soda, blends soda, syrups, and cream, inspiring viral recipes and brand adaptations.

The “dirty soda” craze has taken TikTok by storm, captivating users with its unique blend of soda, flavored syrups, and cream. Originally popularized by Utah-based soda chain Swig and the Hulu series The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, the trend has become a favorite for TikTokers experimenting with sugary concoctions. Andrew Moger, founder of Swig, shared, “We’ve been balancing the fun and excitement around ‘dirty soda’ while also making sure we’re appealing to people who will come to us regularly for their afternoon pick-me-up.”

One standout recipe involves Mountain Dew mixed with mango and strawberry syrups, topped with coconut cream, creating a creamy, sherbet-like texture. TikTok creators have added their own twists, with videos showcasing everything from Dr. Pepper with coconut creamer to sparkling water variations for a lighter option.

The drink's viral status has also inspired brands like Dr. Pepper and Sonic Drive-In to introduce their versions of dirty soda, further solidifying its place in pop culture. Recipes for homemade versions have garnered millions of views, with hashtags like #DirtySoda and #SodaTok trending across the platform.

While fans praise the drink’s innovative flavors, critics have highlighted concerns about its high sugar content. Some TikTokers have responded with healthier adaptations, swapping soda for sparkling water and reducing syrup quantities. Despite mixed reviews, the drink’s popularity continues to surge, with its appeal rooted in the creativity and nostalgia it evokes.
