Watch: Crash-landed plane being transported by road to Hyderabad
A 60-tonne decommissioned aircraft has begun its journey from Karachi to Hyderabad, where it will be used for training at the Civil Aviation Training Institute.
The MD-83 model aircraft had been grounded at Karachi Airport since 2011 and is now being repurposed to support aviation students' hands-on learning.
The plane was carefully moved from the runway to the outer areas of Karachi Airport in preparation for its transfer. The journey will cover key roads, including Shahrah-e-Faisal and Malir, before reaching Hyderabad via Thatta.
To ready it for the journey, the retired aircraft was thoroughly cleaned.
Sources confirmed that the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) aims to bolster training resources by using retired planes for student practice.
Earlier this month, a similar transfer was carried out with an Airbus A310 from Karachi to the Hyderabad training centre.
