Shyne on Diddy’s $50K offer after prison: ‘You can’t be serious’

Shyne opens up about Diddy’s $50K reconciliation offer after his 10-year prison sentence, calling it ‘insulting.’

Shyne, the rapper-turned-politician, recently shared insights into his strained relationship with Sean "Diddy" Combs during an interview on The Breakfast Club while promoting his Hulu documentary The Honorable Shyne. Shyne, who served 10 years in prison, expressed disappointment with Diddy’s reconciliation attempt in 2012, describing a monetary offer he found inadequate.

“There wasn’t an instant forgiveness. I got out in 2009,” Shyne explained. “There wasn’t an attempt at reconciliation until 2012, when I went to Paris to meet him. That was the first attempt of forgiveness, but I was still in a place of, ‘He owes me. He owes me his life.’” Shyne emphasized the pivotal role he played in Diddy’s career by refusing to cooperate with the district attorney during their 2001 trial.

Diddy’s offer of $50,000 fell far short of Shyne’s expectations. “He probably gave me, like, 50 racks, and I’m like, ‘You can’t be serious.’ That’s 10 years? Fifty racks?” Shyne recalled.

Tensions date back to an incident during Shyne’s time at Rikers Island, where Diddy made an unannounced visit. “He came to see me once, and I think I tried to spit in his face,” Shyne revealed, adding that he wasn’t informed of Diddy’s visit beforehand.

On The Stephen A. Smith Show, Shyne also denied rumors that Diddy paid him to take the fall during their trial. “Nothing! Probably made two what I thought were offensive contributions over the last 20-something years, which led to a breakdown in the relations. But I moved on,” he clarified.

Shyne’s revelations highlight unresolved tensions between the two figures and their contrasting views on loyalty and restitution.
