Police arrested a man in Karachi on charges of assaulting a teenage boy after a video showing the incident went viral on social media.

The footage, recorded on a mobile phone, prompted a swift response from Sachal police, who detained the suspect, identified as Sami Alvi, at the Johar Complex on Monday.

According to the police report, the case was filed by Sub-Inspector Mukhtiar Ahmed. Acting on a tip-off, police arrived at the Johar Complex on University Road, where they located and arrested the suspect.

Alvi reportedly admitted to the assault when shown the video of the incident, which occurred on 16 November.

The assault took place inside a union office within the Johar Complex, where the teenager was allegedly confined and beaten.

The incident has sparked concern on social media, with police assuring the public of a thorough investigation.

Police have charged the suspect under sections 342 and 337-A of the penal code, and the investigation has been handed over to the relevant police unit for further action.
