Nicole Kidman has addressed the viral 2001 photo often linked to her divorce from Tom Cruise, setting the record straight in a new interview with British GQ. The image, showing her in a seemingly triumphant pose, was widely misinterpreted as being taken after the end of her marriage. Kidman clarified, “That was from a film, not real life,” without naming the specific project.

The Oscar winner also commented on her widely circulated clapping GIF from the 2017 Academy Awards, explaining that her unusual technique stemmed from concerns about damaging a heavy borrowed ring. Discussing her AMC theater ads, which sparked memes with lines like “Heartbreak feels good in a place like this,” Kidman took it in stride, stating, “I’ll do anything for cinema, so you can meme me as much as you want.”

Currently earning awards buzz for her performance in Babygirl, where she plays a corporate executive entangled in an affair with a younger intern, Kidman described the role as emotionally exposing. The film, slated for a December 25 release, promises to showcase yet another side of the acclaimed actress.
