F1 legend Sir Jackie Stewart, 85, recently addressed a viral suggestion that he race internet personality and boxer Jake Paul in a karting competition. The idea emerged after Paul’s controversial boxing match with Mike Tyson on November 15, 2024, which marked Netflix’s first live-streamed sporting event. Following the fight, an Instagram fan account joked about Stewart competing against Paul, sparking humorous commentary from the retired racer.
Stewart reposted the fan’s suggestion on his Instagram story, writing, “Apparently, I need to dust off my racing overalls.” He added in a comment, “My grandchildren said I should ask for the same deal Mike Tyson got,” referencing Tyson’s rumored $20 million earnings compared to Paul’s reported $40 million payout for the match.
Paul’s fight with Tyson, considered underwhelming by many fans, led to online jokes about Paul challenging retired legends from other sports. The event also faced allegations of being a cash grab and potentially fixed.
Though Stewart’s career did not involve karting, he remains a celebrated figure in motorsport history. The three-time F1 world champion achieved 27 wins during his career, racing for teams like Matra and Tyrrell from 1965 to 1973. Today, he is often seen at F1 events, receiving respect from drivers and fans alike.
