Capital to have new infrastructure projects

ISLAMABAD:

In a bid to address Islamabad's long-standing traffic issues, Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has greenlit two major infrastructure projects to improve traffic flow for residents and visitors.

On November 5, the foundation stones will be laid for the Serena Chowk Interchange and F-8 Exchange Chowk Interchange projects, with an expedited timeline of 3 and 4 months, respectively—markedly shorter than the originally planned 10 and 12 months.

The Serena Chowk Interchange will feature two underpasses and connecting roads, while the F-8 Exchange Chowk Interchange will include a flyover, an underpass, and connecting roads. Naqvi has instructed the Capital Development Authority (CDA) to adhere strictly to the shortened timelines by implementing 24/7 construction schedules.

The CDA previously set completion targets of 10 months for Serena Chowk and 12 months for F-8, but with Naqvi's directives, these deadlines have been significantly reduced.

A dedicated traffic plan, approved by Naqvi, will reroute traffic during construction to minimize disruption.

Additionally, a special traffic unit will maintain order around the construction sites, with personnel stationed around the clock.
