Lahore police officer charged with looting truck with fake FBR officials
A police official in Lahore is accused of colluding with fake officials pretending to be from the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to loot a truck loaded with food items worth Rs9 million.
The suspects reportedly intercepted the truck in Lahore, allegedly posing as FBR personnel and demanding that it be driven to the Sanda police station, where they then looted the goods, Express News reported.
Police said the suspects had also received a Rs1.4 million bribe from the truck’s owner.
A case has been registered at the Lower Mall police station against five individuals, including Assistant Sub-Inspector Majid Jahangir of the Sanda police station and a man allegedly impersonating an FBR inspector, Qaiser Joiya.
Charges include abduction, wrongful confinement, and abuse of authority.
The investigation began following a complaint by local trader Nazir, who said that the group detained him and his truck, seizing the goods under the pretense of an official tax inspection.
Police confirmed and they are actively investigating further details surrounding the incident.
Earlier this week, the government approved a Rs32.5 billion package to improve efficiency of FBR by giving it nearly 1,100 new cars, up to four additional monthly salaries and setting up ex-military men-led Customs posts around the Indus River and in Balochistan.
The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the cabinet approved the Rs32.5 billion package for six months. Subject to the achievement of targeted results, the package will continue in the next fiscal year and the amount will be more than doubled.
