Fazl playing 'no role' for release of Imran
JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman denied on Thursday that he was playing any role for the release of PTI founder Imran Khan, stressing however that he did not support imprisonment of any politician in the country.
Talking to the media, Fazl said that the Constitution and democracy had always been attacked. He blamed the politicians for weakening democracy. "Politicians compromised on democracy for the sake of their own interests. Politicians have a big role in the weakness of democracy," he added.
Responding to a question, the JUI-F chief said that he was not in favour of imprisoning any politician and denied that he was playing a role in the efforts for the release Imran. "I have no role in the efforts to release Imran Khan," he said.
When press further on the subject in the context of election victory of Donald Trump in the US presidential elections, Fazl said: "Neither we interfere in the politics of America nor could we allow them to interfere in our country."
About the new legislation by parliament earlier this month, Fazl said that with the new law, every citizen had been made a suspect. He condemned the heckling of Defence Minister Khawaja Asif in London. He said that it was the responsibility of the British government to take action in this matter.
