Judicial magistrate acquits PTI leaders

ISLAMABAD:

An Islamabad Judicial Magistrate has accepted the acquittal pleas of PTI founder Imran Khan, former Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid, and other co-accused in a case registered under Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC), along with violations of the Amplifier Act and other related provisions.

The case, which was filed at the Aabpara police station following an alleged breach of public order laws. Judicial Magistrate Yasir Mehmood presided over the proceedings, during which Sheikh Rashid Ahmed, one of the accused, appeared in court.

As the hearing progressed, the court observed that the accused, including Rashid, could leave the courtroom after making their appearance. However, Rashid chose to remain in the court. His counsel, Advocate Sardar Masroof, argued that two of the co-accused, Asad Umar and Dr Shahzad Wasim, had already been acquitted in the same case. He further contended that all the accused shared similar roles in the alleged offence.
