Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Omar Ayub filed a contempt of court petition in the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Wednesday over his alleged illegal arrest and denial of a meeting at Adiala Jail.

The petition challenges the actions of several government officials, including the interior secretary, the Punjab Home Department secretary, Jail Superintendent Ghafur Anjum, the Regional Police Officer (RPO), the City Police Officer (CPO) of Rawalpindi, and the SHO of the relevant police station.

In the petition, Ayub has urged the court to punish the individuals responsible for disregarding the assurances previously made before the court. He seeks legal action against those he claims violated the court's orders.

The opposition leader contends that the authorities deliberately ignored the court's directive, mocking the judicial instructions. He asserts that the violation of the court's order calls for stringent action against the responsible parties.

The petition highlights that, under Article 204 of the Constitution, there is no alternative for Ayub but to file this request. He is seeking accountability for the violation of the court’s orders regarding his right to a meeting with PTI founder Imran Khan, who is currently incarcerated in Adiala Jail.

The petition follows an incident in which PTI leaders, including Ayub , were briefly detained for violating Section 144 while attempting to meet Khan at Adiala Jail. The leaders were arrested and then promptly released.

Subsequently, Ayub, along with fellow PTI leaders Shibli Faraz and Asad Qaiser, held a press conference demanding the dismissal of the inspector general of police, the interior secretary, the jail superintendent, and other relevant officials involved in the incident.
