Queen Camilla resumes royal duties, but cancels ‘Gladiator II’ premiere appearance amid recovery
Queen Camilla will resume limited public duties on Tuesday following a brief illness, but her schedule remains scaled back on medical advice. After withdrawing from engagements last week due to a chest infection, the 77-year-old royal will make a shorter-than-planned appearance at the Booker Prize reception at Clarence House today, with minimal guest interactions to protect her health, according to Buckingham Palace. Her return to engagements marks the first since November 5, when she was advised by doctors to rest.
Buckingham Palace confirmed Camilla’s planned appearance today, noting that her attendance will be brief. On Wednesday, she is set to join King Charles at Buckingham Palace for a reception honoring the UK’s TV and film industry. Guests expected include actors, directors, costume designers, and other industry professionals. However, Camilla will not stay for the full event. A planned attendance at the premiere of Gladiator II at Leicester Square on Wednesday has also been canceled, in line with medical guidance.
Despite her recent illness, Queen Camilla hopes to resume more engagements soon, though she will not attend the king’s 76th birthday celebrations on Thursday, reports The Telegraph. Earlier, the Queen was also absent from the Remembrance Sunday service on November 10. A Palace spokesperson explained, “Her Majesty The Queen is currently unwell with a chest infection, for which her doctors have advised a short period of rest.” The statement added that Camilla regrets any inconvenience caused by her absence.
The Queen’s return is seen as a positive sign of recovery, though adjustments to her schedule reflect an ongoing cautious approach to her health.
