On Tuesday, November 12, U.S. President-elect Donald Trump revealed that Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy will lead the newly created Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) when he assumes office in January 2025.

According to CNN, the 78-year-old announced in his Trump-Vance Transition statement: "Together, these two wonderful Americans will pave the way for my administration to dismantle government bureaucracy, slash excess regulations, cut wasteful expenditures, and restructure federal agencies."

Trump likened this initiative to The Manhattan Project, a highly classified World War II program. He elaborated that DOGE will collaborate with the White House and the United States Office of Management and Budget "to drive large scale structural reform" and foster an "entrepreneurial approach to Government."

The announcement, especially Musk’s involvement as the current owner of X, quickly sparked online reactions. A user commented on Pop Base's post about the news, calling the name DOGE an "idiocracy moment for a weird billionaire buying himself the government."

Several people criticized Trump’s choice of Musk as one of the department's leaders, raising concerns such as Musk’s South African origin. Another commented, "He’s not even American - He can’t even run Twitter correctly This has got to be a joke."

One individual expressed a pessimistic view, stating, "This country is doomed and I’m so serious-."

Another user pointed out the potential conflict of interest, writing, "So he’s gonna be in charge of the exact corporation that’s supposed to keep all of his business in check…. Yea that’s a great idea."

One X user voiced frustration with recent events, commenting, "this month just keeps getting worse like give us a break."

Some users speculated that Musk’s unwavering support for Trump may have been an attempt to secure a role in the Cabinet.

"And there you have it, that’s why the mole man has been pushing so hard for Trump to win, yet liberals are the ones with the agendas and conspiracy theories," one X user remarked.

Another person alleged, "Elon definitely helped him rig the votes."
