Chris Wallace exits CNN after three years, plans to explore new media platforms
Veteran journalist Chris Wallace is leaving CNN after a three-year tenure, marking a notable departure for the longtime news anchor. Wallace, 77, confirmed his exit to The Daily Beast, saying, “This is the first time in 55 years I’ve been between jobs. I am actually excited and liberated by that.” Wallace joined CNN in December 2021, signing a three-year contract to anchor programs for both CNN and its streaming service, CNN+.
CNN’s Chief Executive Mark Thompson acknowledged Wallace’s departure, expressing appreciation for his work. “Chris Wallace is one of the most respected political journalists in the news business with a unique track record across radio, print, broadcast television, cable television, and streaming,” Thompson said. “We want to thank him for the dedication and wisdom he’s brought to all his work at CNN and to wish him the very best for the future.”
Wallace, a prominent figure in CNN’s recent election coverage, revealed his intent to explore newer platforms, including streaming and podcasting. Of his experience at CNN, he remarked, “I have nothing but positive things to say. CNN has been very good to me.”
Wallace surprised the media industry three years ago when he left his long-held position at “Fox News Sunday,” citing discomfort with what he called the “conspiracy and lies” promoted by some Fox programs. Following his move, he anchored CNN+’s “Who’s Talking to Chris Wallace?” which later shifted to the Max streaming platform after CNN+ was discontinued.
Wallace’s shows will continue on CNN until their scheduled conclusion later this year.
