Donald Trump reportedly set to nominate Marco Rubio as Secretary of State
President-elect Donald Trump is reportedly planning to nominate Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) as secretary of state, according to The New York Times and Reuters. The decision follows Rubio’s strong backing of Trump throughout the 2024 campaign and marks a significant step in forming Trump’s national security team.
Rubio, who was once considered as a potential running mate, would be the first Latino to serve in this role if confirmed. Known for his cautious stance on international conflicts, Rubio has previously advocated for a negotiated end to the Russia-Ukraine war, even voting against a military aid package for Ukraine earlier this year.
With this appointment, Trump solidifies his key cabinet, alongside Rep. Michael Waltz as national security adviser and Rep. Elise Stefanik as UN ambassador, aiming to tackle pressing global issues.
