Oprah Winfrey denies receiving $1 million from Kamala Harris’ Presidential campaign
Oprah Winfrey’s production company, Harpo Productions, has clarified that she was never “paid a personal fee” by Kamala Harris’ presidential campaign, refuting rumors that claimed Winfrey received $1 million for endorsing Harris.
According to a Harpo spokesperson, the campaign only covered production costs for the Unite for America live-streaming event, which was held on Sept. 19 near Detroit, Michigan. A report by the Washington Examiner suggested that Harris’ campaign spent over $15 million on event production, including $1 million to Harpo Productions, yet Harpo did not confirm this figure.
During Unite for America, Winfrey interviewed Harris on topics like abortion rights and immigration, with appearances by celebrities including Meryl Streep and Chris Rock. Winfrey further dispelled the payment rumors directly, telling TMZ, “I did not get paid a penny. Ever.”
