Keke Palmer has opened up about a challenging experience with Ryan Murphy while filming Scream Queens, detailing the incident in her upcoming memoir Master of Me: The Secret to Controlling Your Narrative, set to release on November 19.

In an interview with the Los Angeles Times, Palmer, 31, recounts a phone call in which Murphy allegedly “ripped” into her, calling her “unprofessional” after she opted to keep a pre-scheduled obligation on her day off despite a last-minute production request.

Palmer describes the call as feeling like a “visit to the dean’s office” as Murphy reportedly expressed disbelief over her decision. Despite apologizing and believing the situation resolved, Palmer later learned from a co-star that the incident might have harmed her relationship with Murphy, who frequently collaborates with stars like Sarah Paulson and Emma Roberts.

Palmer’s memoir also reveals an encounter with an unnamed co-star who allegedly made a racist remark, referring to Palmer as “Martin Luther King” in response to her call for a respectful atmosphere on set. “I’m not a victim,” Palmer asserted, stating that she chose not to let the comment affect her self-worth. In her book, Palmer candidly addresses her journey toward self-empowerment, boundary-setting, and overcoming obstacles in the industry.
