Wasim Akram ranks his top three Pakistan cricketers

Akram chose to leave himself off, instead selecting three other cricketing giants from the nation

Former legendary Pakistan pacer Wasim Akram has revealed his top three cricketers from Pakistan’s rich cricketing history. While humbly acknowledging that he was encouraged to include himself in the list, Akram chose to leave himself off, instead selecting three other cricketing giants from the nation.

At number three, Akram picked his long-time bowling partner Waqar Younis, acknowledging that it was impossible to leave Waqar off any list of Pakistan’s greatest cricketers.

“Look, I’ve been told I might go off the script here. I’ve been told that I have to pick myself up, and I’m a bit embarrassed to do that. But number three, I pick Waqar Younis,” Akram said.

Moving to number two, the left-arm pace legend followed the footsteps of fellow cricket great Michael Vaughan and chose the iconic Javed Miandad. Akram praised Miandad’s monumental contribution to Pakistan cricket, highlighting that Miandad’s legacy would forever be cemented among the game's greats.

“Number two is great Javed Miandad. I mean, every time you talk about greats coming out of Pakistan, Javed Miandad, his name is right up there,” he commented.

As for his number one pick, the 58-year-old selected none other than Pakistan's World Cup-winning captain, Imran Khan. Akram reflected on Imran's remarkable impact as an allrounder during his prime, acknowledging that he belonged to a golden era of allrounders alongside the likes of Ian Botham, Richard Hadlee, and Kapil Dev.

“It’s got to be Imran Khan. I’ve seen him in his prime days as a cricketer, not off the field as a Playboy, but as a cricketer. I mean, he was a proper, proper allrounder. Then that era was the allrounder era—Ian Botham, Richard Hadlee, Imran Khan, and then Kapil Dev from India,” he concluded.
