Wicked movie dolls stir controversy with adult website link
Mattel's special edition dolls inspired by the 'Wicked' movie adaptation have stirred controversy after a website error on the packaging directed users to an adult site.
The packaging for the dolls, designed in collaboration with Universal Pictures, was intended to display the film’s official site, WickedMovie.com, but mistakenly listed Wicked.com—a URL leading to explicit content.
This error was noticed after the film’s Los Angeles premiere, sparking swift backlash online. Fans and parents took to social media, voicing concerns over the oversight, with one X user stating, “Whoever did this needs to be fired immediately… it’s mostly kids buying these dolls.” The 'Wicked' movie dolls, featuring characters portrayed by Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo, are sold at major retailers like Target, Amazon, and Kohl’s.
Mattel and Universal Pictures have yet to comment on the misprint, but the mistake comes amid high anticipation for the film. Erivo and Grande had previously celebrated the doll releases on social media, expressing excitement over seeing their characters as collectible items
