Sindh Minister for Women Development Shaheena Sher Ali, has announced a significant move to prevent child marriages in the province.
From now on, the couple's National Identity Card (NIC) number will be included in the nikahnama (marriage certificate) to make sure that they are 18-year-old the legal age for marriage in Sindh The Women Development Department will launch a 15-day awareness campaign starting November 25 at the district level.
The primary objective of this campaign is to educate women about their rights. Minister shared these views during a seminar organised by the Civil Society Support Programme (CSSP) of Mirpurkhas at a local hotel.
The minister urged parents that the bride should read the Nikah Nama in detail before marriage. "It's alarming," she noted, "In our society, a bride's desire to read the marriage certificate is often perceived as stigmatised. While in reality, it's a fundamental right.
