HYDERABAD:

The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has held Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif responsible for statements made by two of his cabinet ministers, Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui and Mustafa Kamal, regarding the alleged handover of Karachi to the federal government.

At a press conference in Hyderabad on Wednesday, PPP Sindh President Nisar Ahmed Khuhro said the Prime Minister Shahbaz should clarify the matter, noting that the ministers appeared to have been given a "carte blanche" to comment on sensitive issues.

Commenting on Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf's (PTI) recent nationwide protests, Khuhro said the February 8 demonstrations passed without any significant impact, though he added they exposed internal rifts within the party.

Nisar Khuhro, who also chairs the Sindh Assembly's Public Accounts Committee, announced that Rs57 billion will be pumped into the agricultural sector through the purchase of one million tons of wheat from farmers.

On the issue of India river water, he said the federal government's technical committee has clarified that constructing new canals on the river is no longer under consideration.
