Rs150m set aside for Aiwan-e-Auqaf upgradation

The Punjab government has approved Rs150 million for the comprehensive rehabilitation of the Aiwan-e-Auqaf building, a historic eight-storey structure in Lahore.

The upgradation project is set to commence by December 15, and will include the renovation of offices, the Auqaf colony, and the modernisation of staff quarters.

The 50-year-old Aiwan-e-Auqaf holds significant historical value, and the restoration project follows recommendations from the National Engineering Service Pakistan (NESPAK) and the Technical Committee of the Department of Construction and Communications.

These expert consultations aim to ensure that the building's rehabilitation adheres to modern safety and sustainability standards.

Plans include transforming existing offices into modern workspaces, encompassing circle offices and managers' offices.

The Auqaf colony and employee residences will also undergo significant improvements. Sources indicate that the engineering wing of the Auqaf Department will oversee the entire project to maintain quality and adherence to the outlined specifications.

Constructed in 1973, the Aiwan-e-Auqaf building has experienced considerable structural damage over time, including issues related to stability and general dilapidation.
