Usama Khan made an appearance on After Hours with Ushna Shah, during which he engaged in a hearty chat with the host. Revealing key details of his blooming career as a media personality, the Sunn Mere Dil actor had some interesting tales to share.
Hailing from Peshawar, Usama used to be a chartered accountant. Acting wasn't initially on the cards for him, but he did confess to always hoping to appear on television somehow. "There are no such opportunities where I come from, and even Karachi now has its limitations," he said, then sharing that he later moved to Lahore for further studies and to look for jobs until eventually Angeline Malik offered him a shot at his debut.
The 32-year-old actor currently stars in drama serial Ghair, and had fun behind-the-scenes stories to share from the casting process to his honest perception of his co-stars. Addressing the camera, he merrily revealed, "I'd like everyone to know that I was casted in Ghair on Ushna's recommendation."
The two then imparted the details of the story, which began around the time when they were working on a telefilm together. On the second day of the shoot, Ushna raised the big question. At the time, she was also working on a project that had gone on hold due to an unforeseen tragedy that struck her male co-star and troubled him for quite a while.
The production was hoping to replace the unnamed actor. After Usama informed Ushna that he wasn't caught up in any commitments, he was soon approached on call. He then took up the role as the male lead for Ghair, and the rest is history.
Cutting in with an abrupt segue, Usman said, "Since the days of that telefilm, I don't know what it is, but I've been plagued with an irrational fear every time I look at Ushna." This earned him a bewildered reaction from the host, who was quick to defend herself and her countenance.
He clarified by mentioning Saba Hameed as another person who he feels intimidated by. "It's not that there's anything wrong with you," he reassured Ushna, "I mean, look at how great Saba Aapa is. This is my second or third drama with her, and I've also worked with her as my director." He further described Saba as someone who speaks mirthfully, yet he gets intimidated when it comes to performing in front of her.
Despite his unique origins and hilarious impressions on co-stars, the Sanwari actor has eased into the industry and has a number of projects to his name. Going back to his career transition, he revealed, "My parents don't have a problem with any profession I pursue as long as I'm earning money through it."
