Twitch streamer Censor sets Guinness World Record for most pull-ups after controversial rejection
Call of Duty pro gamer and streamer Doug ‘Censor’ Martin has officially achieved a Guinness World Record for completing the most pull-ups in a 24-hour period.
Martin successfully performed 9,250 pull-ups on September 8, 2024, surpassing the previous record by over 300 reps. However, his initial application was rejected, sparking controversy due to corporate sponsorship involvement during the attempt.
Initially, Guinness World Records (GWR) informed Martin that his record would not be recognized, citing that his live-streamed event involved corporate partnerships, including with Project Purple, a non-profit organization focused on fighting pancreatic cancer, and One More Rep Athletics & Fitness. GWR claimed this could detract from the personal achievement aspect of the record, as outlined in their criteria for recognition.
Following discussions with Martin and his sponsors, Guinness World Records reassessed the application. On November 7, 2024, Martin received official confirmation of his new title. The email from GWR read, “We are thrilled to inform you that your application for Most Pull-Ups in 24 hours (male) has been successful, and you are now a Guinness World Records Title Holder!” Martin shared his excitement on social media, with many fans and fellow esports professionals expressing their congratulations.
Doug ‘Censor’ Martin joins a growing list of content creators to earn world records, following notable achievements like streamer Norme’s record for longest time awake. Martin’s feat has since garnered attention in the gaming and fitness communities, further highlighting the intersection of esports and athletic performance.
