Megan Thee Stallion, Cardi B, and GloRilla are facing a copyright lawsuit from rapper Plies, who claims their hit song ‘Wanna Be’ uses a beat similar to his 2008 track ‘Me & My Goons.’

Plies alleges that the song’s "infrared countdown beat" was first copied by Soulja Boy in his 2010 song ‘Pretty Boy Swag’ and now features in ‘Wanna Be,’ which includes a remix with Cardi B.

Legal documents obtained by TMZ reveal that Plies is suing Megan’s Hot Girl Productions, as well as Collipark Productions, Universal Music Group, Yo Gotti’s Collective Music Group, and Interscope Records.

Although GloRilla, Megan, Cardi, and Soulja Boy have yet to respond, Megan's frequent collaborator, producer Max Julian, took to X, formerly Twitter, to counter Plies' claims.

The Grammy Award winning producer argued that the beat originated with Dallas rapper Lil Wil's 2006 track ‘My Dougie,’ produced by Big E, who is credited on ‘Wanna Be.’ LilJuju added that ‘Pretty Boy Swag’ was also inspired by ‘My Dougie,’ noting that Soulja Boy even appears on a remix of the track.

Plies, known for past sampling disputes, previously declined a request from Kodak Black to clear a sample. If successful, this lawsuit could result in significant damages for all parties involved.
