Ivanka Trump's outfit choice at Trump's victory speech raises eyebrows: 'An interesting choice'

Ivanka Trump made a striking appearance on stage at her father’s victory speech on Tuesday night, as president-elect Donald Trump celebrated his win at the Palm Beach County Convention Center in West Palm Beach, Florida.

Although Ivanka stepped away from the political arena years ago, she joined her family for this significant moment, standing by her father in a deep blue velvet pantsuit—a fashion choice that sparked widespread debate and speculation online.

The former first daughter, who had not mentioned her father's campaign in recent statements, turned 43 this past week and posted a list of “life lessons” she has learned over the years. “This past week, I turned 43! Reflecting on life’s lessons, here are some truths I’ve learned along the way,” she shared in an X (formerly Twitter) post.

The post included no campaign messages, adding to the curiosity about her choice of attire on election night.

Some online users were quick to comment on the outfit’s color, with one commenter describing it as “an interesting choice.”

Another user remarked, “Of all the colors…why blue?” while one playfully added, “We see you, girl. Smile if you need help.”

Others pointed out that blue is typically associated with the Democratic party. “If she wanted to celebrate the Republican’s second win, why not wear red to match her father’s tie—and party?” wrote one user, echoing the confusion among Trump supporters about Ivanka’s unexpected choice.

Interestingly, she wasn’t the only one diverging from Republican red on stage. Melania Trump, soon to be First Lady again, wore gray, while Usha Vance, wife of vice president-elect JD Vance, chose black.

Only Kimberly Guilfoyle, fiancée to Donald Trump Jr., seemed to follow the traditional Republican color scheme, appearing in red.

Historically, red became associated with Republicans and blue with Democrats as recently as the 2000 election, when news outlets like USA Today and The New York Times adopted the color coding for election maps.

The Times graphics editor at the time, Archie Tse, noted that red was assigned to Republicans in part due to its initial “R” association, calling it a “more natural” fit.

As for Ivanka, her style choice could have been a personal one. Some fans suggested that Ivanka, now based in Miami Beach, wore the outfit simply because it looked stunning, with many fans commenting on its elegance.

While many may search for political symbolism in her outfit, the choice could reflect her preference for the color rather than any hidden message.
