PTI protests 'abduction' of MNA from Multan
Senior leadership of the PTI alleged on Wednesday that their National Assembly member, Khawaja Sheraz Mehmood, was taken from his residence in Multan for opposing the 26th Constitutional Amendment.
PTI Chairman Gohar Ali Khan, speaking at a press conference alongside party leaders Salman Akram Raja, Sheikh Waqas Akram, and Faisal Amin, condemned the raid on Khawaja Sheraz's home and the broader "wave of lawlessness."
"We often hold press conferences about the party's stance and the PTI founder, but today's focus is Khawaja Sheraz," Khan said, adding that the raid on his house in Multan was "unlawful and appalling."
He noted, "They broke into his home. His family believes he was taken to Islamabad. We strongly condemn this act. PTI leader Intizar Panjautha was also picked up, and we condemn what happened to him as well." "This fascism and lawlessness continue against the Tehreek-e-Insaf. We protest against it. We also request the [National Assembly] speaker that he [Khawaja Sheraz] is a member of the National Assembly."
Sheikh Waqas Akram alleged that police came to the house of Khawaja Sheraz and held the "family at gunpoint". According to Sheraz's wife, he added, the police were also present with those who took him.
Salman Akram Raja said that the whole world was witnessing the lawlessness in Pakistan. Pakistan has become a place where no one is safe, people are requested to raise voice against it now," he added.
Separately, talking to the media outside Adiala Jail after a meeting with the PTI founder, senior party leader Ali Muhammad Khan said he condemned the manner in which Khawaja Sheraz was picked up.
When asked about the victory of Donald Trump in the US elections, Khan said that they believe in Allah only, but expected that the new American leadership would at least not do what was happening during the current Joe Biden administration.
