Same stray dog mauls over a dozen people within hours
A stray dog mauled more than dozen people in three different areas, triggering fear and panic among residents of the second biggest urban centre of Sindh. Despite the start of the mating season of dogs, the Hyderabad Municipal Corporation or the Town Municipal Corporations have not taken any measures to prevent dog-bite incidents.
As per details, the incidents of dog bites have increased in Hyderabad after the change in weather. A stray dog mauled 12 people in three different areas of Latifabad within a few hours. The victims include 14-year-old Farhan, 50-year-old Fatima Khatoon, nine-year-old Ayesha, six-year-old Ayan, 40-year-old Murad, 54-year-old Ghulam Hussain, 30-year-old Kamran, 15-year-old Hassan, 10-year-old Abdul Basit, 30-year-old Asif, and 50-year-old Nadeem.
All these incidents took place in Unit No 7, 6 and 2. All the victims reached the Government Bhattai Hospital where they were provided first aid and anti-rabies vaccinations.
According to eyewitnesses, the dog that mauled citizens was first seen in Latifabad's Unit No 7, where it bit several pedestrians. Subsequently, people chased the canine away and it went to the adjacent area of Unit No 6 and mauled everyone who came in his way. The canine then walked into Unit No 2 and bit unsuspecting passers-by there too. When asked about the possible reasons for the spike in dog-bite incidents, Dr Kabir Abbasi said that the start of winter is mating season of dogs, and the canines behave strangely and aggressively during this time.
