PESHAWAR:

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf central leader and former senator Azam Swati has refiled a petition to hold Senate elections in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.

The petition requests a date for the Senate elections in the province, naming the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) as a respondent. Filed through Advocate Ali Zaman, the petition argues that the ECP has made the Senate elections in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa conditional upon the oath-taking of elected candidates for specific seats, which is deemed unconstitutional and illegal.

The amended petition states that the ECP's decision is biased and against the Constitution, adding that delaying Senate elections in K-P violates ECP's own rules. Such decisions compromise the transparency of Senate elections, especially since they have already taken place in other provinces.

According to the petition, it is not appropriate to impose conditions on elections in one province while the Constitution requires uniformity.
