Tom Bradby labels Trump a fascist and Emily Maitlis abruptly goes off air amid Trump’s near victory
Tom Bradby is at the forefront of the liberal reaction as Trump solidifies his victory in the U.S., remarking that Brits are shocked the world’s leading democracy has elected a “fascist.”
The ITV presenter appeared on his network’s election special tonight, where he told his guest panel: “There will be a lot of people watching at home who will not be able to conceive that the most powerful democratic country in the world has elected somebody, who people closest to him called a fascist.”
This statement followed Trump’s win in Georgia, which provided a significant boost to his chances of returning to the White House, just after his first battleground victory in North Carolina.
The Associated Press officially projected Trump as the winner of Georgia, dealing a substantial blow to Kamala Harris and signaling her path to the White House is narrowing fast.
Other Brits echoed Bradby’s reaction, including TV presenter Emily Maitlis, who abruptly left her Channel 4 show after reportedly swearing, letting her emotions get the best of her.
Her co-host Krishnan Guru-Murthy apologized to the panel, saying: “I will tell Emily off later because I know she started the swearing and it may be the middle of the night in Britain but I know they are still quite sensitive about that stuff.”
Meanwhile, celebrations kicked off at Mar-a-Lago as election results continued to suggest Trump may be on track to reclaim the White House.
The former president won a series of states early Tuesday night and appeared set to recapture several swing states he lost to Biden in 2020, with his team expressing "confidence" in a win.
In contrast, silence fell over Harris’ watch party in Washington D.C., with supporters seen embracing as they began to consider a possible defeat.
Actor Brian Cox also expressed his distress at the election’s direction while on Channel 4 tonight, offering a grim outlook on a potential Trump victory.
“It is the most crucial election there has been in my lifetime and we have to make sure that he [Trump] doesn't get in, because he is a monster, he really is.”
