WB Games has confirmed that a sequel to the best-selling 2023 game Hogwarts Legacy is in development, with plans to link the story to the upcoming Harry Potter TV reboot series on Warner Bros' Max streaming platform. The popular role-playing game, which lets players experience life as a Hogwarts student in the 1890s, sold over 30 million copies and was the top-selling game of 2023 in the U.S.

According to David Haddad, president of Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, the success of Hogwarts Legacy encouraged the studio to expand the franchise with additional content. In addition to the sequel, a definitive edition of the original Hogwarts Legacy is reportedly underway, featuring new story content and expansions, available to current players.

Despite excitement over the game’s success, some fans are skeptical about the connection between the sequel and the new Harry Potter series. Set for release in 2026, the series’ timeline and story elements differ from the game’s late 19th-century setting. However, WB Games is hopeful the expanded universe will appeal to both game enthusiasts and series fans.

Hogwarts Legacy initially launched on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and Windows PC, later arriving on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch. Its enduring popularity has sparked speculation about the integration of other classic characters and settings.
