Michigan man votes for Kamala Harris so his daughters can have abortions
A Michigan man became emotional during a recent CNN interview outside a Grand Rapids polling station, explaining his support for Vice President Kamala Harris.
He shared that he voted for Harris to protect his daughters’ rights, specifically their right to make choices regarding their own bodies. “I have three daughters... women’s rights are pretty important to them and my daughters,” he said, pausing as he fought back tears. “Their bodies, their choice kind of mentality.”

In Michigan, abortion is legally permitted up to 24 weeks, with certain restrictions depending on age and pregnancy stage. The state has been a pivotal battleground in recent elections. In 2020, Democrat Joe Biden narrowly won Michigan after focused turnout efforts in urban areas like Detroit, following President Donald Trump’s slim 10,704-vote victory there in 2016.
The state’s 2020 Senate race also drew national attention, with Democratic Senator Gary Peters successfully fending off Republican challenger John James, a Black Army veteran. This closely contested and costly race underscored Michigan’s importance in the broader political landscape, as Democrats sought to retain control of key seats in an increasingly divided nation.
