Amazon MGM Studios secures Jennifer Lopez and Anthony Ramos-led animated ‘Bob the Builder’ movie
Amazon MGM Studios has secured rights to a fresh animated Bob the Builder movie, starring Anthony Ramos and produced by Jennifer Lopez’s Nuyorican Productions. The film reimagines the classic children's character, Bob, as “Roberto” in Puerto Rico, in a storyline highlighting the resilience and culture of the Latino community. Ramos, who inspired the Puerto Rican setting, serves as both the lead and a producer, guiding a story that celebrates the vibrant textures of Caribbean Latin nations. Bob’s motto, “Si se puede” (“Yes we can”), embodies the spirit of the project.
While it remains undecided if Bob the Builder will debut on Prime Video or receive a theatrical release, the project boasts a production team including Lopez, Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas, Benny Medina, and animation studio ShadowMachine, known for Pinocchio. The adaptation, written by Felipe Vargas, will be overseen by executives from Mattel and Nuyorican Productions. Jennifer Lopez has previously found success with animated films, including Ice Age: Continental Drift and Home.
This film marks another addition to Lopez's collaborations with Amazon, following recent hits like This Is Me…Now and Unstoppable. This reinvigorated Bob the Builder film aims to inspire young audiences through a relatable Latino character, broadening the franchise’s reach while preserving its core values of teamwork and positivity.
