Police claim cracking 'body in trunk' case
Police on Monday claimed to have arrested the main suspect involved in the mysterious murder of a woman whose body was discovered in a metal trunk at Site Metrovile area's Shaheed Cemetery on October 21.
The deceased, 37-year-old Shazia Abdul Waheed, was brutally tortured before being strangled to death then stuffed in a large storage trunk left abandoned at the graveyard. The arrested suspect was a distant relative of the victim's husband.
Keamari district SSP Investigation Zaheer Javed and SSP Faizan Ali revealed details of the breakthroughs at a press conference yesterday.
They said that on October 21, Shazia's body was found in a box from Shaheed Cemetery within the limits of Site A police station. The victim was a resident of Liaquatabad and employed at a private factory in Godhra.
The police started the investigation by registering the murder case on the complaint of her husband Abdul Waheed. During the investigation, the police arrested Irshad Ali, who had an illicit relationship with the deceased for the past 15 years.
The arrested suspect is a father of three and the victim was a mother of four children. Police said that Irshad Ali used to pay expenses to Shazia and he suspected that she also had other male friends. On the day of the incident, Irshad called Shazia to his house where they had an argument and he killed her by strangling.
