Red Bull mechanics clash: Checo’s crew accuses Verstappen’s team of ‘lying’
A recent exchange between the Red Bull Racing team members has ignited further speculation about team dynamics. As Sergio Perez’s form has declined over the 2024 season, culminating in a last-place finish at the Mexican Grand Prix, discussions about his future with the team have intensified among fans. A fan on social media asked about the treatment Perez receives compared to his teammate, three-time world champion Max Verstappen.
Greg Reeson, a member of Verstappen's side of the garage, responded on Instagram, stating that Perez is given "the same tools as Max." In defense of Perez, Charlie Wilson, one of Perez’s mechanics, posted a pointed response, writing, “Why you lying for?” The exchange quickly gained traction online, with screenshots shared across social media, fueling speculation and debate over whether both Red Bull drivers are treated equally.
The original comments on Red Bull's Instagram page have reportedly been deleted, as noted by a Perez fan page on X, with only Wilson’s response remaining temporarily visible before removal. Fans have reacted strongly to the interaction, interpreting it as evidence of underlying tensions within the team.
The Red Bull Racing team has faced challenges in recent races, not limited to Perez’s struggles. Verstappen, who began the Brazilian Sprint Race in P4, received a five-second penalty for a Virtual Safety Car infringement, demoting him to P4 after initially finishing in second place. The penalty, related to exceeding the minimum time requirement during the VSC period, impacted Verstappen’s race, adding to Red Bull’s difficult weekend at Interlagos.
