New Zealand won the toss, opting to bat first and posted a total of 235 runs. Daryl Mitchell led with 82, and Will Young contributed 71.
India’s Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar were instrumental with the ball, taking five and four wickets respectively.
India responded with a first-innings score of 263, securing a 28-run lead, thanks to Shubman Gill’s 90 and Rishabh Pant’s 60. New Zealand’s Ajaz Patel was relentless, picking up five wickets.
Trailing by 28, New Zealand struggled in their second innings, managing only 174, with Will Young’s 51 the standout. India’s Jadeja repeated his bowling success, grabbing another five wickets, while Ravichandran Ashwin took three.
Set 148 to win, India’s top order stumbled under New Zealand’s bowling assault, losing five wickets for just 29 runs.
Though Pant mounted a counter-attack, scoring 64 off 57 balls, his dismissal alongside a 35-run stand with Sundar sealed India’s fate.
Patel and Glenn Phillips dismantled India’s line-up, with Patel taking six wickets in the final innings. Patel’s 11-wicket haul across both innings earned him Player of the Match, while Young was named Player of the Series.
