19 Israelis injured after projectiles strike central Israel
Nineteen people were injured in central Israel’s Sharon region after three projectiles launched from Lebanon struck the territory early Saturday morning, according to Israeli police.
Israel's national ambulance service reported that seven individuals sustained injuries in the town of Tira, with their conditions varying from mild to moderate.
Additionally, two others experienced stress-related symptoms.
The Israeli military activated air raid sirens in several areas following the projectile launch and confirmed that some of the projectiles were intercepted.
The military noted that a fallen projectile was identified in the vicinity and stated that further details regarding the incident are under investigation.
In a separate statement, Resistance in Iraq claimed responsibility for launching drones at a "vital target" in northern Israel, although it remains unclear if this action is connected to the injuries reported in Tira.
The recent hostilities come amid escalating tensions in the region.
On Friday, the United States announced plans to deploy B-52 bombers, fighter jets, and naval destroyers to the Middle East, adjusting military assets as the USS Abraham Lincoln carrier strike group prepares to depart the region.
This decision is part of a broader strategy to bolster US military presence in the area amid ongoing conflicts.
Lebanon's Prime Minister Najib Mikati condemned Israel’s actions, accusing it of rejecting calls for a ceasefire after Israeli forces bombed Hezbollah positions in southern Beirut.
This marked the first significant military action against Hezbollah in the area this week, with reports indicating that at least ten strikes occurred in Beirut’s southern suburbs, resulting in widespread destruction and numerous buildings being leveled.
The United Nations has described the humanitarian situation in northern Gaza as “apocalyptic,” warning that the entire civilian population is at risk of death amid ongoing hostilities.
The Israeli military continues its attacks against both Hezbollah and Hamas, with renewed air invasions reported in various locations including Baalbek and other southern regions of Lebanon.
On Friday, Israeli attacks in the Nuseirat camp in Gaza killed at least ten Palestinians, exacerbating the ongoing humanitarian crisis in the area.
As tensions rise on both fronts, the situation remains volatile, with local and international calls for restraint and peace continuing to go unheeded.
The broader geopolitical ramifications of this escalation are being closely monitored, particularly in light of the upcoming US presidential election and its potential impact on Middle Eastern policy.
