Dev Patel to lead Tarsem Singh's tennis crime thriller ‘The Journeyman,’ with AGC backing
Dev Patel is set to star in The Journeyman, a crime thriller directed by Tarsem Singh and written by Bryan and Alexis Roberts, known as The Roberts.
Patel will portray a down-on-his-luck professional tennis player who becomes entangled in a match-fixing scheme to support his family, pulling him into a dangerous world of corruption. AGC Studios will finance and produce the film, with Scott Franklin, Stuart Ford of AGC, and Mason Eways for LBI Entertainment attached as producers. Shamier Anderson and Stephan James of Bay Mills will serve as executive producers.
AGC Studios chairman Stuart Ford expressed excitement for the collaboration, stating, “The Roberts have written a taut, suspenseful crime thriller full of twists and turns that feels like a perfect fit for a visionary filmmaker like Tarsem and a top-tier producer of Scott’s caliber.” Ford added that Singh’s experience and unique visual style would bring a realistic portrayal of the professional tennis circuit to the screen.
Scott Franklin, recalling his admiration for Singh’s work, said, “After seeing Dev Patel’s Monkey Man and his existing body of work, the thought of having a chance to watch these two come together and create magic on screen became a dream come true.”
AGC International will handle the film’s global distribution rights and will present it to potential buyers at the upcoming American Film Market (AFM). Domestic rights are managed by CAA Media Finance and AGC. Production is set to begin in 2025.
