Safety plan launched for female students
The Punjab Higher Education Department has initiated an implementation plan to ensure the appointment of female staff in government and private educational institutions across the province for a safe and secure learning environment for female students.
In the first phase, the placement of males in females' areas has been terminated. CCTV cameras have been made mandatory in all educational institutions, including government and private colleges, universities, and schools.
All institutions, where male employees work alongside female colleagues, will be monitored through CCTV cameras during working hours. Senior female officers will conduct regular patrols every hour.
All women's educational institutions, professional institutes, and hostels will have only female staff and their male staff will soon be replaced.
CCTV recordings will be preserved for at least 30 days for surveillance purposes. Special attention will be given to monitoring potentially unsafe areas, such as dark alleys or unsupervised spaces, to guarantee the safety of female students.
As part of these measures, male cooks are no longer allowed in female hostels. Additionally, male security guards are restricted from entering the hostels, and instead, female security guards will be stationed inside the gates to provide an added layer of security. To further enhance safety, funds have been allocated to install cameras immediately.
Notifications have been sent to all educational institutions, hostels, and related organisations for immediate implementation.
