NUST researchers among world's top 2% scientists in 2024 Stanford ranking
In a noteworthy milestone for Pakistani academia, 43 researchers from the National University of Sciences & Technology (NUST) have earned a place among the world’s top 2% of scientists in 2024, according to an annual report by Stanford University and Elsevier.
This ranking, which includes 100,000 leading scientists globally, highlights NUST's strengthening position on the international research stage, particularly in fields like artificial intelligence, engineering, and cybersecurity.
The accomplishment represents a steady rise for NUST researchers, who have seen increasing inclusion in this global ranking, from nine scientists in 2021, to 23 in 2022, and 31 in 2023.
The 2024 list underscores NUST's continued efforts to foster a robust research culture, bringing international recognition to Pakistan’s scientific community.
NUST currently holds the 353rd spot worldwide and 64th in Asia in the QS University Rankings, distinguishing itself as one of Pakistan's premier research institutions.
The latest achievement also comes as a testament to the university’s ongoing commitment to supporting high-impact research across diverse fields.
The Stanford and Elsevier ranking uses a composite index based on several bibliometric factors, including citation counts, the Hirsch index, and authorship positions, to evaluate scientific influence.
NUST researchers featured on the list contribute across a broad range of disciplines, such as materials science, biomedical research, nanotechnology, physics, cybersecurity, and humanities.
Among the recognised scholars are Dr Muhammad Shahid, Dr Noreen Sher Akbar, Dr Meraj Mustafa Hashmi, and Dr Rizwan Ul Haq, with 23 of the listed researchers appearing consistently in the top 2% over the years. This achievement reflects both their individual contributions and NUST's supportive environment for scientific exploration.
The university's growing presence in global research rankings not only brings attention to Pakistan’s scientific advancements but also reinforces the potential of Pakistani institutions on the global stage.
