The Sindh government has announced a crackdown on vehicles with fake and fancy number plate, tinted windows, hooters, sirens, plain-clothed guards and display of weapons.

Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Memon, announced the crackdown on various vehicle violations during a press conference in Karachi.

The enforcement measures are set to commence from today.

Memon emphasised that no one would be allowed to violate the law, regardless of their influence. He reiterated the Sindh government's commitment to accountability, stating, “No one will work on his or her heart's desire.”.

Under the new directive, police and enforcement agencies will be empowered to remove unauthorised tinted glass from private vehicles on sight, a measure aimed at curbing visibility-related safety issues. Only individuals possessing a No Objection Certificate (NOC) for medical reasons related to sunlight sensitivity will be exempted.

Enforcement agencies would also target any vehicle displaying unauthorised police lights or emergency beacons, including those affixed to government-owned cars. Only specific personnel with valid permissions will be exempt from this rule.

Vehicles with altered or forged number plates will also face confiscation, the government stated. Unregistered cars and vehicles bearing number plates issued to other parties will also be subject to immediate seizure.

Moreover, individuals, even those licensed, will not be allowed to openly carry firearms or shields. The government clarified that these measures are meant to enforce law and order and stressed that violators would face legal action without exception.

The government urged citizens to comply with the new regulations, highlighting that this strict enforcement would improve road safety and security across Karachi.

Moreover, Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Hasan Lanjar has directed the Sindh police and traffic department to adopt a zero-tolerance approach towards individuals operating vehicles with fake number plates, tinted windows, blue or red lights, various sirens, or driving in the wrong direction.

He also ordered strict actions against those displaying arms and instructed both district and traffic police to ensure arrests, registration of FIRs, seizure of vehicles, and imposition of heavy fines on violators.

In a statement issued on Thursday, Mr Lanjar urged citizens to comply with all legal requirements for their vehicles to avoid any issues.

Karachi Traffic Police announced this project following the success of the ‘No Bike No Helmet’ campaign.'
