The Islamabad High Court (IHC) removed objections on Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan’s bail plea in the Toshakhana II case, directing the Registrar’s Office to schedule a hearing for Monday.
Justice Mian Gul Hassan Aurangzeb presided over the hearing, during which Khan’s legal representatives, including Ayesha Khalid and Shaheena Shahab, appeared in court, Express News reported.
Justice Aurangzeb questioned Khan’s counsel about pending objections from the Registrar’s Office on the bail application.
Imran Khan’s lawyer Ayesha Khalid clarified that the petition sought bail in the Toshakhana II case, noting that prior rulings on similar cases followed the principle of consistency.
Justice Aurangzeb, citing a previous bail granted to Imran Khan’s wife, Bushra Bibi, remarked that “Bushra Bibi received bail because she was a woman; similar cases involving men have recently been dismissed.”
During the proceedings, Justice Aurangzeb pointed out an objection related to the date on the power of attorney, which was signed in July, while the case action date was November. Khan’s senior lawyer, Shah Khawar, responded, explaining that it is routine practice to secure signatures on necessary documents for clients in custody.
Imran Khan’s lawyer, Shaheena Shahab, requested the court issue notices on the bail plea. Justice Aurangzeb assured that legal procedures would be followed.
After hearing arguments, the court removed the Registrar’s objections and ordered Khan’s bail plea to be scheduled for hearing on Monday.
Yesterday, PTI had filed for post-arrest bail in the Toshakhana-2.0 case at the Islamabad High Court, Express News reported.
Currently imprisoned in Adiala Jail, the PTI founder has requested the court to grant him bail until the completion of the trial.
This application follows the court's earlier approval of bail for Bushra Bibi, the founder's wife, in the same case. Following Bushra Bibi's release on bail, the PTI founder submitted his own bail request.
