Honey-trap victim rescued from dacoits

KARACHI:

Like so many other Pakistani men, Noor Muhammad Khan, had also believed that the feminine voice on the phone is actually a woman, who is beautiful and desperately in love with him.

Like a hypnotised subject, he complied when the female voice on the phone told him to meet 'her' at a far flung area of Shikarpur district.

While waiting for his unseen heartthrob in an unfamiliar town, Noor Muhammad woke up from the trance when burly men brandishing Kalashnikovs told him to sit on a bike and rode off into the twilight on a September evening.

The dacoits had used a voice changing app to make their northern Sindh rural accent sound like a delicate female voice. Noor Muhammad realised very late that he had been honey-trapped.

He was a lucky individual. The Anti-Violent Crime Cell (AVCC) recovered Noor Muhammad during a raid in the katcha area of Shikarpur district. Noor Muhammad Khan was honey-trapped in September and taken captive in the Begari katcha area and the kidnappers demanded a ransom of Rs10 million for his release.

According to the AVCC spokesperson, dacoits set up a honey trap to lure Noor Muhammad Khan to Shikarpur, where he was abducted and taken to the Begari Katcha area. The dacoits demanded a ransom of Rs10 million from his family in return for his release.
