Gas supply suspended in Karachi’s DHA and nearby areas

Damage to a 24-inch supply line occurred during excavation work near Jam Siddiq Bridge.

The Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) has announced a suspension of gas supply in the Defence Housing Authority (DHA) and surrounding areas, including Defence View, Azam Basti, and Akhtar Colony.

The disruption is due to damage caused to a 24-inch supply line during third-party excavation work near the Jam Siddiq Bridge.

According to an SSGC spokesperson, emergency repair teams have been deployed to the site to address the issue.

The company has stated that gas supply will be halted in the affected areas until the repairs are completed.

Residents can expect the gas supply to be restored by tomorrow morning at 6:00 AM, assuming that the repairs proceed as planned.

Gas prices could increase as Sui Northern requests Rs 64 per MMBTU hike from Ogra

Sui Northern Gas Company (SNGC) has submitted a proposal to the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra) seeking a Rs 64 per MMBTU increase in gas prices.

The company is facing a substantial shortfall of approximately Rs 20.58 billion for the current financial year, which includes Rs 489 million allocated for the LPG AirMix project.

Additionally, SNGC will incur costs for transferring Reversed Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) for domestic consumers, with prices tied to High-Speed Fuel Oil (HSFO) and crude oil rates.

The company has also requested that the supply cost of LNG for all consumer categories be raised to Rs 1,711.73 per MMBTU, effective July 1, 2024. If approved, these changes are expected to lead to higher gas prices for domestic consumers.
