Imran seeks to quash deal rumours

Vows to fight for 'true freedom', stands 'unshaken' by military courts

RAWALPINDI:

Amid swirling speculations around an alleged deal between PTI and the establishment, aimed at paving the way for Bushra Bibi's recent acquittal, party founder Imran Khan categorically brushed off the reports as outright lies.

After meeting Imran Khan at Adiala Jail, Shoaib Shaheen addressed the media and asserted that the incarcerated leader vowed not to capitulate to pressure.

Imran, who has been at loggerheads with the establishment since his government was toppled in 2022, asserted, "I have no fear of military courts and will continue my jihad for true freedom."

Imran also signalled his intentions to take the issue of human rights violations in his prison cell to the Supreme Court. "For the first ten days, I was confined to a small room and allowed outside only for an hour each day. I wasn't permitted to meet my family or lawyers," he lamented.

Imran also compared his treatment to other political figures, saying, "Nawaz Sharif and Shehbaz Sharif had privileges, they met with 40 visitors and were given home-cooked meals and air-conditioned rooms."

Shaheen further conveyed that Imran also criticised the former chief justice of Pakistan, Qazi Faez Isa.

He [Isa] has wiped away even the memory of Justice Munir. He has shielded a fraudulent election and pushed through the NAB amendments as a self-serving beneficiary."

"Isa has three properties in London; he has proven to be the worst chief justice in history. He has set the foundation for fraud elections by appointing ROs from bureaucracy instead of the judiciary."

Leader of Opposition in the National Assembly Omar Ayub Khan also asserted that Bushra Bibi's recent acquittal was based on merit and also expressed confidence that Imran Khan would soon be released. He lauded the former first lady's endurance in prison, saying, "For nine months, Bushra Bibi showed immense fortitude. They mixed harmful substances into her food, yet she remained like a wall of steel."
