Students seize Islamia College Peshawar

Student organisations have taken control at Islamia College Peshawar, leaving the university administration and campus police powerless. On Wednesday, a student group stormed the vice chancellor's office, with a video of the incident going viral on social media.

As they chanted slogans against the vice chancellor, students damaged office doors, and security intervened to prevent them from entering. In the ensuing melee, an angry student tore a professor's clothing, prompting the Islamia College Teachers Association to file a report at the university campus police station.

The Islamia College Teachers' Association stated that a protest was held by the Khalil Student Organization at Islamia College, during which the doors of the teachers' and the vice chancellor's office were broken.

"In Islamia College, some student groups from nearby areas believe that the college belongs to them. They feel they should not pay fees, take exams, or be required to earn passing grades, and if any action is taken against them, they resort to protests," a statement from the association said.

The teachers of Islamia College have said this cannot continue, and they cannot teach in such an environment. They threatened to boycott classes until these issues are resolved, emphasising that there will be no compromise on their dignity.

The campus commandant was also present, and the teachers held a protest, demanding immediate FIRs and strict action against the students involved. They also sought an investigation into the administration's negligence and urged a ban on outsiders' entry to the campus.

TSA representatives expressed strong reservations about police effectiveness, and this displeased the campus commandant. Meanwhile, media coverage was also restricted.

The faculty announced that the protest would continue until their demands are met. The Islamia College administration stated that action would be taken against the students involved in the attack, who have been handed over to the police.
